Focus on networked systems
Erhardt+Leimer at Labelexpo Europe 2019
At this year's Labelexpo Europe, which will take place from 24 to 27 September in Brussels, Erhardt+Leimer GmbH (Stadtbergen, Germany) will again exhibit a comprehensive portfolio of devices and systems for automation and quality assurance in the label industry. The company, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, will focus on networking the components used.
All current E+L components are 'i4.0-ready,' i.e. suitable for integration into the latest generation of production systems. Each of the devices manufactured in large numbers, whether it is a sensor, a web guider or a high-precision linear drive, can be connected both actively and passively to digital networks. E+L technology therefore integrates perfectly into the production and/or ERP systems of the customers to make documented and automated manufacture possible. Device and system data of E+L products can be backed up and restored if required. The high performance products offer both direct and remote access for the service team and can be functionally expanded in a simple manner via the Data Master or PLC. The latest generation components with integrated web server and intuitive administration via browser support the technical staff in achieving continuous and optimised production. This is done primarily with the integrated high-tech analysis tools, which can be used directly without additional software. This reduces or completely avoids downtimes and ensures quality in a sustainable manner.
The ELSCAN OMS3 video system supplements the ELSCAN range, consisting previously of the OMS4 premium system and the OMS6 high-end system. OMS3 is a compact system with an intelligent camera, which only contains the main functions and, in this way, enables a very inexpensive introduction to web monitoring. The two 5-megapixel cameras offer a field of view of 100 x 75mm. The computer is integrated in the camera unit, which means only the cables for the mouse, monitor, synchronisation and power supply have to be connected to the camera crossbeam when installing the system. The images can optionally be displayed on a touch monitor. The camera unit is mounted on a cantilever crossbeam and can be positioned either manually or by means of a motor. The maximum operating width is 580mm, the maximum web speed is 400m/min. The system also features a remote maintenance option. Like the other ELSCAN systems, the OMS3 also uses the dualView technology patented by E+L.
SMARTSCAN is a cost-effective camera system for quality assurance. Besides a video function with a zoom it features 200% print inspection, splice detection and the detection of missing labels and unremoved matrix. Thanks to a special illumination concept for inspections, not only can the process of setting up jobs be almost fully automated, but it is also possible to set up extremely reliable defect detection. The simplicity of the system is matched by the controls used to operate it, which feature a widescreen monitor with touchscreen functionality. During normal operation, the operator will only need to press one button in order to start the inspection. Since the camera unit is housed in a compact enclosure, SMARTSCAN can be retrofitted with no problems whatsoever to existing printing machines and finishing machines. 200% inspection means that the images of the web are captured with two different illumination methods and then evaluated. The double image capture means that defects in the material or printing can be detected that are not visible using classical incident illumination (100% inspection).
The PA 62 a two-channel measuring amplifier for connecting any load cells; it displays not only the sum signal but also the web tension on the left and right hand side of the web separately. The device can do without any fixed buttons; buttons for operation are displayed on the LCD display only when required. Besides the actual web tension it indicates a trend curve and alerts the operator if limits are exceeded. The inputs and outputs can be configured individually. The device also offers an Ethernet interface for process integration.
