The latest generation of high-frequency generators for the processing of medical plastic films makes use of semiconductor technology. The Kiefel GmbH, a leading provider of plastic film processing lines based in Freilassing, Germany, has now unveiled a highly-modern semiconductor generator, which has been developed in-house at the Innovation & Technology Centre.

Especially in medical technology industry, the demand for high-frequency devices is high, for example for the welding of blood or infusion bags. The required films made from polar plastics such as PVC, PU, or EVA, are heated by means of high-frequency energy and bonded under pressure. The necessary energy, generated by the generator, is added to the material by means of electrodes and sets in motion the polar molecules. The alternative for the conventional tube generators includes state-of-the-art semiconductor technology. The new welding generator functions nearly maintenance-free, without abrasion and performance losses during its entire lifetime. The requirements for controlling and handling the semiconductor generator are significantly lower than before.
