Karl Knauer wins German Packaging Award with Black Panther film promotion

Packaging specialist Karl Knauer KG (Biberach, Germany) wins the German Packaging Award 2018 with a particularly exciting promotional packaging for the film launch of the blockbuster "Black Panther" from Marvel Studios, and the spectacular packaging of the iced tea "Brisk" that was developed on behalf of PepsiCo (USA). Perfectly aligned to the look & feel of the cult film, the packaging "Black Panther" makes use of all the senses.  The spectacular light show based on HiLight - smart LEDs technology should have convinced the jury in particular. The packaging won in the design and finishing category.

"This award is an important signal to all brand manufacturers who want to use the point-of-sale as an advertising stage through new technologies," says Martin Glatz, head of research & development at Karl Knauer, about the renowned award. "The combination of finishing technologies and the know-how to make packaging shine offers completely new possibilities to present brands and products in the trade.

A can of the PepsiCo brand "Brisk" in the design of the film hero "Black Panther", highly refined in 3D printing, is placed on a small "stage" with fold-out side parts in the look of the interior of the high-tech stealth ships from the film. Embossings in all facets, a 20-second light choreography and ingenious folding mechanisms provide the surprising stage effect that results after opening the completely black packaging.

Based on the newly developed and patented HiLight - smart LED technology, an ultra-thin spectacular light show was integrated into the three back walls. By pressing the Black Panther logo, the light show starts in five separately controlled zones, which can be restarted at any time.
