Follmann enters the digital print market
Whether for paper, foils, nonwovens or textiles – with the takeover of the coatings business unit for digital printing at com2C from Porta Westfalica, Germany, the Follmann Group will be offering its customers a comprehensive range of ready-to-use, waterborne coatings for digital printing from March this year. In this way, the family-owned company from Minden, Germany, is responding to the general trend of increasing individualisation by means of digitisation in a wide variety of areas and covers a rapidly growing demand.
As an expert in the development and production of specialty chemicals, Follmann already has a broad range of products and services. This ranges from water-based printing inks and low-migration adhesives for the packaging industry to decorative coatings for the wallpaper and decor industry, high-performance adhesives for the wood and furniture industry, as well as functional coatings and microcapsules for various industries.
With the acquisition of coatings for digital printing from com2C effective 1 March, Follmann is now expanding its portfolio to include aqueous coating substances, which perfectly complement existing market activities while at the same time offering opportunities to open up completely new applications and markets. Thanks to the ready-to-use colour receiving layers, a large number of substrates such as films (PET, PVC, PE, PP), paper, cardboard, nonwovens, tissue or textiles (PES, CO + blends) can be digitally printed in the finishing process. The functional surface coatings are the optimal basis for high-quality print design. They guarantee high colour brilliance and rich, bright colours. Bleeding out the colours is thus a thing of the past. In addition to the high optical density, the coatings also meet increased UV stability or flame-retardant requirements.
“As we have extensive know-how in the field of aqueous coatings, the coating products for digitally printable substrates represent an excellent addition to our portfolio and an entry into the world of digital printing," says Dr Jörg Seubert, managing director of Follmann. “We are pleased to be able to meet a growing demand with this expansion of our business and to support individual print projects that can be realised more easily and cost-effectively thanks to digital printing.”
com2C is parting with this business unit in order to be able to concentrate solely on its core business, i.e. the production and distribution of coated digital print media.
Follmann will also be exhibiting at Fespa, the trade fair for digital printing, from 15 to 18 May 2018 in Berlin.
