As the new CDO at Herrmann Ultraschall, Thomas Bernard wants to create digital added value for customers.

Since the first visualisation of an ultrasonic welding process, digitalisation has been one of Herrmann's recipes for success. The further development and securing of such digital added value for the customer will in future be the responsibility of Thomas Bernard, who, as CDO, has been complementing the management team around CEO Thomas Herrmann and COO Carsten O'Beirne since 1 December.

Digital development and integration

The first step towards achieving this goal is the further digitalisation of the group of companies. Business processes are to be digitally developed and integrated across all levels in order to simplify communication with customers and optimise working speed and transparency. This is also important to continue the globalisation of the world market leader for ultrasonic welding systems: Uniform processes and systems can prevent information breaks between the national companies and guarantee a uniform customer experience worldwide.

"Digitalisation is not a separate discipline. It is more appropriate to speak of digital transformation in this context. It will have a massive impact in all areas – and thus of course also on partners and customers," explains Thomas Bernard. "This direct impact on customers and working on their needs is what particularly attracts me to the role of CDO," he continues, explaining his motivation.

More than 25 years of experience

For his new tasks, Thomas Bernard can draw on more than 25 years of experience in the field of software & IT. After studying applied computer science in Dortmund, he first worked as a software developer and product manager. Later, he increasingly dedicated himself to the digital transformation of companies in various roles. Most recently, he was chief information officer at the Austrian machine manufacturer Engel.
